compared to the US version, this has the additional track 'Gunshot Glitter', althought its not as complete as the Japanese version. (with the additional track of 'Thousand Fold')

The album title comes from the phrase 'My Sweetheart the Drunk', found in a Poem of Jeffs called 'Sexpot Despair'.

At the time of Jeff's death, there were only three recording sessions for his second album: one in Manhattan in the summer of 1996, another in Manhattan in early 1997, and the last in Memphis shortly after, in 1997.

The first disc of Sketches is taken from the recordings done with Tom Verlaine. These sessions where initially scrapped, as Jeff was unsatisfied with the outcome of these sessions.

The second disc is from Jeff's 4 track demo recordings that he'd made for Andy Wallace, who was set to replace Verlaine at Jeffs request.

"[Jeff] described the album to me as a guidebook for losers in love." -- Andy Wallace (producer of Grace and Mixing on Sketches) (Irvin, Jim. "It's Never Over." Mojo, August 1997, Issue 45, Pages 32-38)

"[the next album will be] a really radical evolution from Grace, just because we've been together as a band for so much longer than that. On Grace, we had just been together for maybe five weeks and Michael [Tighe] wasn't even in the band. And now everybody really has a really integral part in the way the music's made. It'll be better." -- Jeff Buckley (Kingsmill, Richard. Triple J Radio Interview. December 1995.)
